What could happen to international students (F1 Visa) during Trump Administration

What the newspapers get wrong is to treat anything that is proposed by the Republicans as something that’s already converted into actions. Or at least in the impinging future. Is it the sensationalism that they try to inspire or a tangible threat they see, we don’t know. This is not to say that the possibility of reducing the H1-B cap from 65000 to a lesser number, or reducing the STEM OPT period, which is 3 years now, is not a serious concern. Yes, it is, but we discount the possibility of such occurrence. The international students are not only cash cows filling the coffers of many of the universities in the US, they are also engines of American innovation. One report -of National Foundation for American Policy – says that over half of the billion dollar firms in the US have been founded by immigrants. When Trump regime constricts the flow of such skilled immigrants, through strategizing job obstacles, it’s putting America at a perilous disadvantage, especially at a time when the growing powers of China and reckless Russia, would be a real threat to the international order and when they know that US aggression is at its weakest phase, caused by its efforts to keep the intellect out of it’s border. Foreign students, and largely skilled immigrants, contribute to the US revenue, national security, and technological domination, and thus it’s capacity to play a key role in the international affairs, and be respected by others for its formidable presence. Military might is a function of technology. And therefore our prediction is that Trump might not take a hard position as he promised on the stump, on the qualified immigration that comes via the F1 and H-1B route. The quantum of outsourcing to other countries may come down and this will yet be a great benefit to the students in the US, when many more openings will be up for taking. So we think Trump might not do what gives him a macho respect and the country a mighty advantage.
